my first renegade fair!

going to the craft fair was AMAZING!
i was like a little kid in a huge warehouse full of candy.
but instead of candy it was loads of crafty goodies!!
j and i were there for about two hours, and i was so overwhelmed with everything that half the time, i forgot to take pictures. haha silly me.

my favorite stand. wooden ties!! how cool is that?!

the renegade is coming to LA this weekend (july 16 & 17)!! please go and support all the artists!

pink gradient birthday cake

it was my sister's 20th birthday last month.
and i thought what could be a better present than a cake made with love from scratch?!
so the search for the prettiest cake was on!
after going through a couple of sites i found this amazing looking cake from call me cupcake.
just look at all the layers!
i basically just short-cutted everything by using cake mix and store bought frosting...i didn't have time between work and the party!
and this was my end result:

i had a minor hiccup trying to make the cake even, but it turned out gorgeous, if i don't say so myself! :)
plus, my sister loved it..and so did our family and her friends!
success!!

the search for..great vietnamese food

j LOVES vietnamese food. so being 6 hours away from mom's home cooked meals, we've decided to roam around berkeley (and probably to oakland) for the best vietnamese food which will remind us of home while being away from home.
this was our first restaurant: Little Saigon. it was a quiet place and it looked promising (i was solely judging from the name).
we got goi cuon as an appetizer. j got a bowl of pho tai and i had a bowl of bun bo hue.

the goi cuon didn't have any meat, but tasted ok. kind of bland with just shrimp, vermicelli and lettuce, but the peanut sauce was pretty good. the pho was a disappointment according to j, he didn't like it at all! although he did finish his whole bowl. and lastly, i thought the bun bo hue was decent. not as spicy as i would have liked it, but even the soup wasn't comparable to orange county's little saigon.
so the search continues!
